Palos Fire Protection is governed by a "Board of Trustees", which is comprised of residents of the district. The Board of  Trustees for Palos Fire Protection District develop and approve annual tax levy, Budget and Appropriation Ordinance and the appointment of the Chief of the Fire Protection District.

The Chief is charged with the overall operations of the Fire Protection District and enforcing applicable Fire District Ordinances. The Chief is required to obtain approval from the Board of Trustees prior to any major expenses, and to regularly keep the Board of Trustee apprised as to the general operations of the Fire District.
