Palos Park Police Chief to study Strategies to Improve
Intercultural Communication at Notre Dame’s Mendoza College
of Business
Police Commissioner Dan Polk has announced that Chief Joe
Miller will be taking part in Notre Dame’s Mendoza College
of Business, fall semester Intercultural Management program.
The program focuses on the increasing scrutiny of government
agencies and their need to have personnel with solid,
principled negotiating skills.
Today's competitive, dynamic
work environment makes sound leadership and management more
crucial than ever. To address these needs, government
leaders are calling for more targeted training to drive a
higher benchmark of knowledge and competence from their
employees. The reality
is that in the culturally diverse world of today, issues
once perceived as being solved through simple understanding
and fair-mindedness has become much more complex to identify
and manage.
The work force and the
dynamics of ethnicities and ethical beliefs have rapidly
changed in the public service sector and now is a critical
time for professionals at all levels to receive something
more extensive than cultural sensitivity training leader.
The University of Notre Dame,
Mendoza College of Business prepares men and women for
careers in service to others. . Key topics include:
• Conceptual tools for
understanding leadership effectiveness
• Guidelines for the transition from individual
contributor to manager
• Insights into the relationships between leaders and
followers

conflict
