Palos Park Police
Department Join Social Networking site Twitter
Palos Park residents can track crime in real time now that the Palos
Park Police Department has joined the social networking site
Twitter. Twitter, allows the media and community members to follow
events, natural disasters and police activity. Residents joining the
department's Twitter page will be alerted by e-mail or text message
when the police update their site.
Police Commissioner Dan Polk said Twitter will allow the department
to keep community members posted about events and street closures
before they happen. Police can also update the page while on a crime
scene. Polk said, “At the crime scene, when new information is
coming out every second, it will be easier to send this information
out,"

Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that
allows its users to send and read other users' updates (otherwise
known as tweets), which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters
in length.
The Palos Park Police Department has
set up a Twitter account to alert followers about breaking news,
announcements, broadcasts of up-to-date crime developments and
community assistance alerts. Twitter can be used much in the same
way as the Palos Park Police Department E Alerts.
